BOXERS have started arriving for the Five Nations Boxing Friendly Championship tournament set for this Saturday in the resort town of Victoria Falls, with Zimbabwean superstar boxer Charles Manyuchi expected to be among the dignitaries.
The boxing show being hosted by Victoria Falls Boxing Academy, draws pugilists from Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, Zambia and hosts Zimbabwe
The stage has been set as boxers have started arriving in the resort town while other teams are expected later today.
“There will be 10 boxers from each country, including juniors, and each team will bring along boxers, referee and officials. This is an opportunity for our boxers to get international fights and earn points. We are bringing glamour to the sport as well as enhancing sports tourism,” said chairperson of the boxing academy Danielle Connolly.
“We would like to thank Manyuchi (Charles) for backing the growth of boxing as a sport in Zimbabwe and look forward to producing many future world champions from our stable of young amateur boxers,”

The new academy, fully furnished with boxing and gym equipment was officially opened on Friday at a colorful event which saw Muposiwa square off with his trainer, former boxer Titus “T and T” Zikhali

“The idea was to showcase talent to the rural folk and identify potential athletes that can be nurtured. We spotted some potential boxers that showed interest and we will be engaging them so that we start training them to build a stronger team,” said Muposiwa.
“Calls have been growing louder from the fans for us to host such an event but we are constrained by lack of funds but this time around we managed to get some funding to enable us to get a stage from Bulawayo,” said Muposiwa.

“So this creates good competition. Right now our performance since we started has been on the rise. At the Zone IV Games early this year we were number three. So it’s an indication we will have good fights this year,” said Masiyambumbi.
THE resort town of Victoria Falls will this weekend reverberate to the frays of international boxing with pugilists from three countries set to exchange blows.
Weighing only 27kgs, Mangomea��s opponent Victoria Falls-based Murengwa is a little fighter judging by his enthusiasm to take on an older boxer. He might have lost the bout but is a boxer to watch out for.
“We are on a recruitment exercise where we are scouting for talent in schools and youth clubs to identify individuals who we can train,” said Muposiwa.
